Stability Test
The thermal stability is described by the loss rate. The loss rate was determined by accelerated thermal degradation test, that is, incubate the protein at 37℃ for 48h, and no obvious degradation and precipitation were observed. The loss rate isless than 8% within the expiration date under appropriate storage condition.
-
Storage & Shelf Life
Samples are stable for up to twelve months from date of receipt at -20℃ to -80℃. Store it under sterile conditions at -20℃ to -80℃. It is recommended that the protein be aliquoted for optimal storage. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
-
Shipping
In general, recombinant proteins are supplied as lyophilized powder and shipped at ambient temperature. For bulk packages, the proteins are provided as frozen liquid and shipped with blue ice, unless otherwise requested by the customer.

Protein Description
SMO (Smoothened) is a pivotal component of the Hedgehog signaling pathway, which plays a crucial role in embryonic development and tissue homeostasis. Abnormal activation of this pathway has been implicated in various cancers, particularly basal cell carcinoma and medulloblastoma, making SMO a critical target for therapeutic interventions. Due to its integral function in cell signaling and oncogenesis, the study of SMO and its interactions has garnered significant attention in molecular biology and pharmacology. The production of recombinant SMO proteins allows researchers to investigate the structure-function relationships and delineate the molecular mechanisms underlying its activity. This research is further propelled by the development of SMO inhibitors, such as vismodegib and sonidegib, which have shown efficacy in treating Hedgehog-driven malignancies. By producing and characterizing SMO in recombinant systems, scientists aim to explore its potential as a drug target, understand resistance mechanisms to existing inhibitors, and evaluate novel therapeutic strategies. Moreover, understanding SMO's role in the pathway can provide insights into the broader implications of the Hedgehog signaling in various biological processes beyond cancer, including regenerative medicine and stem cell biology. Thus, the study of recombinant SMO not only advances our knowledge of cancer biology but also contributes to the development of innovative therapeutic strategies for targeting Hedgehog-related diseases.
