  • Stability Test

The thermal stability is described by the loss rate. The loss rate was determined by accelerated thermal degradation test, that is, incubate the protein at 37℃ for 48h, and no obvious degradation and precipitation were observed. The loss rate isless than 8% within the expiration date under appropriate storage condition.

  • Storage & Shelf Life

Samples are stable for up to twelve months from date of receipt at -20℃ to -80℃. Store it under sterile conditions at -20℃ to -80℃. It is recommended that the protein be aliquoted for optimal storage. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.

  • Shipping

In general, recombinant proteins are supplied as lyophilized powder and shipped at ambient temperature. For bulk packages, the proteins are provided as frozen liquid and shipped with blue ice, unless otherwise requested by the customer.

Protein Description

Glucokinase (GCK) is a pivotal enzyme in glucose metabolism, primarily functioning as a glucose sensor in pancreatic β-cells and the liver. It catalyzes the phosphorylation of glucose to glucose-6-phosphate, a critical step in glycolysis and glycogen synthesis. Unlike other hexokinases, GCK has a high Km for glucose, making it particularly sensitive to changes in blood glucose levels. Mutations in the GCK gene can lead to disorders such as congenital hyperinsulinism and maturity onset diabetes of the young (MODY), highlighting its importance in maintaining glucose homeostasis. The study of recombinant GCK proteins allows researchers to investigate its structural and functional properties in detail. Recombinant protein technology enables the production of GCK in controlled systems, facilitating the exploration of its enzymatic activity, regulation, and interaction with other metabolic pathways. Such studies are fundamental for understanding the enzyme's role in both normal physiology and pathological conditions, paving the way for developing therapeutic strategies for diabetes and related metabolic disorders. Furthermore, the characterization of GCK's binding affinities and kinetic parameters through recombinant systems can aid in drug design efforts, as small molecules that modulate GCK activity may offer novel approaches to treat glucose dysregulation. Overall, the research on recombinant GCK proteins is critical for elucidating the mechanisms underlying glucose metabolism and developing interventions for its associated disorders.
