Analytical Data

  • Gene name

    Otolin-1

  • 简介

Otolin-1 is a collagen-like protein that shows specific expression in the inner ear, where it is a key component that provides the organic scaffolding for the otic bulb (the calcium carbonate structure found in the otic bulb and utricle). Otolin-1 plays a key role as a scaffold in the biomineralization process by chelating calcium and forming interconnected fibrils between otoliths, thereby integrating into the calcium crystal structure. Otolin-1 Protein, Human (HEK293, His) is the recombinant human-derived Otolin-1 protein, expressed by HEK293 , with C-6*His labeled tag.

  • Stability Test

The thermal stability is described by the loss rate. The loss rate was determined by accelerated thermal degradation test, that is, incubate the protein at 37℃ for 48h, and no obvious degradation and precipitation were observed. The loss rate isless than 8% within the expiration date under appropriate storage condition.

  • Storage & Shelf Life

Samples are stable for up to twelve months from date of receipt at -20℃ to -80℃. Store it under sterile conditions at -20℃ to -80℃. It is recommended that the protein be aliquoted for optimal storage. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.

  • Shipping

In general, recombinant proteins are supplied as lyophilized powder and shipped at ambient temperature. For bulk packages, the proteins are provided as frozen liquid and shipped with blue ice, unless otherwise requested by the customer.

Protein Description

Otolin-1 is a key protein involved in the development and maintenance of the inner ear, particularly in the formation of otolithic organs responsible for balance and spatial orientation. Its significance has garnered attention in research related to auditory and vestibular disorders. Mutations in the otolin-1 gene have been associated with conditions such as hearing loss and balance dysfunction, highlighting its critical role in the functioning of sensory cells in the inner ear. The study of recombinant otolin-1 protein has paved the way for understanding its physiological roles and potential therapeutic applications. By producing this protein in vitro, researchers aim to investigate its interactions with other cellular components and its contributions to the structural integrity of the otolithic membrane. Furthermore, elucidating the mechanisms of how otolin-1 functions can provide insights into the broader field of otology, offering potential strategies for the treatment or prevention of inner ear-related disorders. The exploration of otolin-1 and its recombinant forms represents a promising avenue for advancing our knowledge of inner ear biology and developing innovative therapeutic interventions for patients affected by auditory and vestibular pathologies.
