Protein Description

Chloride intracellular channel 4 (CLIC4) is a member of the CLIC family of proteins that play crucial roles in various cellular processes, including regulation of cell volume, intracellular chloride ion homeostasis, and cellular signaling pathways. CLIC4 is unique among its family members because it can exist in both soluble and membrane-bound forms, allowing it to participate in diverse cellular functions located in different compartments. Research has shown that CLIC4 is implicated in cancer progression, including tumor growth and metastasis, as well as roles in other pathophysiological conditions such as cardiac and neurodegenerative diseases. The study of recombinant CLIC4 protein can provide insights into its structural characteristics, functional mechanisms, and interactions with other proteins. Understanding these aspects can reveal the potential of CLIC4 as a therapeutic target or biomarker in diseases where chloride channel dysregulation occurs. The recombinant production of CLIC4 enables detailed biochemical and biophysical analyses, facilitating the development of inhibitors or modulators that could alter CLIC4 function and potentially offer new strategies for disease intervention. Given the importance of chloride channels in maintaining cellular homeostasis and the emerging roles of CLIC4 in various diseases, continued research into this protein is essential for elucidating its contributions to both normal physiology and pathological conditions.
