Analytical Data

  • Gene name

    MMP-8

  • 简介

MMP-8 protein degrades different fibrillar collagens, such as type I, II, and III. It is implicated in the breakdown of collagen fibers during uterine involution. MMP-8 Protein, Mouse (Active, 242a.a, HEK293, His) is the recombinant mouse-derived MMP-8 protein, expressed by HEK293, with C-His labeled tag.

Site-directed mutagenesis Custom tag design Custom buffer formulation Custom full-length protein production

  • Stability Test

The thermal stability is described by the loss rate. The loss rate was determined by accelerated thermal degradation test, that is, incubate the protein at 37℃ for 48h, and no obvious degradation and precipitation were observed. The loss rate isless than 8% within the expiration date under appropriate storage condition.

  • Storage & Shelf Life

Samples are stable for up to twelve months from date of receipt at -20℃ to -80℃. Store it under sterile conditions at -20℃ to -80℃. It is recommended that the protein be aliquoted for optimal storage. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.

  • Shipping

In general, recombinant proteins are supplied as lyophilized powder and shipped at ambient temperature. For bulk packages, the proteins are provided as frozen liquid and shipped with blue ice, unless otherwise requested by the customer.

Protein Description

Matrix metalloproteinase-8 (MMP-8), also known as collagenase-2, is a member of the matrix metalloproteinase family, which plays a crucial role in extracellular matrix remodeling and tissue homeostasis. This enzyme is predominantly expressed in neutrophils and is involved in the degradation of type I and type III collagen, which are essential for maintaining the structural integrity of connective tissues. Dysregulation of MMP-8 activity has been implicated in various pathological conditions, including inflammatory diseases, cancer metastasis, and periodontal diseases. Its dual roles in tissue remodeling—facilitating normal physiological processes as well as contributing to disease progression—make it a significant target for therapeutic interventions. In recent years, significant research efforts have been directed towards the production and characterization of recombinant MMP-8 proteins to better understand its biological functions and to explore potential applications in drug development. The recombinant forms provide a controlled environment for studying MMP-8's enzymatic properties, substrate specificity, and interactions with inhibitors, paving the way for novel therapeutic strategies. Furthermore, understanding the role of MMP-8 in specific diseases may lead to the development of biomarkers for diagnosis or prognosis and may also inform treatment approaches that target MMP-8's activity to mitigate disease impact. Overall, the ongoing research surrounding MMP-8 underscores its importance in both basic biology and clinical applications, highlighting the need for continued exploration of its mechanisms and therapeutic potential.
