Analytical Data

  • Gene name

    GFAP

  • 简介

The GFAP protein is a member of the class III intermediate filament family and serves as a cell-specific marker critical for distinguishing astrocytes from other glial cells in the developing central nervous system. Its role as a marker is critical in defining the identity of astrocytes, highlighting their unique characteristics in a complex cellular environment. GFAP Protein, Mouse (His) is the recombinant mouse-derived GFAP protein, expressed by E. coli, with N-His labeled tag.

  • Stability Test

The thermal stability is described by the loss rate. The loss rate was determined by accelerated thermal degradation test, that is, incubate the protein at 37℃ for 48h, and no obvious degradation and precipitation were observed. The loss rate isless than 8% within the expiration date under appropriate storage condition.

  • Storage & Shelf Life

Samples are stable for up to twelve months from date of receipt at -20℃ to -80℃. Store it under sterile conditions at -20℃ to -80℃. It is recommended that the protein be aliquoted for optimal storage. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.

  • Shipping

In general, recombinant proteins are supplied as lyophilized powder and shipped at ambient temperature. For bulk packages, the proteins are provided as frozen liquid and shipped with blue ice, unless otherwise requested by the customer.

Protein Description

Glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) is a key intermediate filament protein predominantly expressed in astrocytes, which play a crucial role in maintaining the structural integrity of the central nervous system (CNS) and mediating various physiological processes. Abnormal expression of GFAP has been implicated in various neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's disease and multiple sclerosis, as well as in glial reactions to injury or inflammation. The study of GFAP is vital for understanding astrocyte function and pathology. Advances in recombinant DNA technology have enabled the production of GFAP recombinant proteins, providing valuable tools for research. These proteins can be utilized in various assays, such as immunohistochemistry and Western blotting, to investigate GFAP expression patterns under different physiological and pathological conditions. Furthermore, recombinant GFAP can serve as a biomarker for astrocytic activation and CNS injury, offering insights into disease mechanisms and potential therapeutic targets. The continuing research into GFAP recombinant proteins not only enhances our understanding of astrocytic biology but also aids in the development of biomarkers and treatment strategies for CNS disorders, ultimately contributing to better patient outcomes.
