简介
Galactokinase (GALK1) protein facilitates the transfer of a phosphate group from ATP to alpha-D-galactose, playing a pivotal role in the initial and committed step of galactose catabolism. Through this enzymatic activity, GALK1 initiates the metabolic pathway responsible for breaking down galactose, contributing to its utilization within cellular processes. Galactokinase/GALK1 Protein, Human (His) is the recombinant human-derived Galactokinase/GALK1 protein, expressed by E. coli , with C-6*His labeled tag.

Stability Test
The thermal stability is described by the loss rate. The loss rate was determined by accelerated thermal degradation test, that is, incubate the protein at 37℃ for 48h, and no obvious degradation and precipitation were observed. The loss rate isless than 8% within the expiration date under appropriate storage condition.
-
Storage & Shelf Life
Samples are stable for up to twelve months from date of receipt at -20℃ to -80℃. Store it under sterile conditions at -20℃ to -80℃. It is recommended that the protein be aliquoted for optimal storage. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.

Shipping
In general, recombinant proteins are supplied as lyophilized powder and shipped at ambient temperature. For bulk packages, the proteins are provided as frozen liquid and shipped with blue ice, unless otherwise requested by the customer.

Protein Description
Galactokinase (GALK1) is an essential enzyme in the galactose metabolism pathway, catalyzing the conversion of galactose to galactose-1-phosphate, a crucial step for utilizing galactose in energy production and biosynthesis. Mutations in the GALK1 gene can lead to classic galactosemia, a genetic disorder characterized by an accumulation of galactose and its metabolites in the body, resulting in severe complications such as cataracts, liver damage, and developmental issues in affected individuals. The study and characterization of the GALK1 recombinant protein are vital for understanding its structure-function relationships and the molecular basis of galactosemia. Additionally, recombinant GALK1 can serve as a valuable tool for developing diagnostic tests and potential therapeutic strategies aimed at managing galactosemia and related metabolic disorders. By leveraging techniques such as site-directed mutagenesis and advanced protein purification methods, researchers aim to produce functional GALK1 protein that can be used in both basic research and applied biomedical context. The insights gained from these studies could not only enhance our understanding of galactose metabolism but also pave the way for novel interventions to mitigate the effects of galactosemia in affected patients.
